Rock and Republic Jeans creator wanted to make a better designed jean for his girlfriend (didn't like seven brand jean). Had marketing and merchandising company but no jean background.
Amy's Organic - Husband and wife team created frozen organic products 19 years ago. $240 MM annually - flew by private jet to nyc from west coast. Had no cooking experience, only wanted organic, natural food for daughter, Amy, now at Stanford.
Kidville - will begin franchising nationwide - wanted clean, up-to-date environement for children. Wife still has PR firm and runs the business with husband. Kidville offers education, playground, cafe, salon, etc.
Taryn Rose shoes - She was orthopedic surgeon. Couldn't recommend comfortable shoes for patients. Wanted stylish and comfortable shoes and none were at the market. Started business with $200,000 SBA loan. Did market research at Neiman Marcus. Contacted sales person at Barneys which referred her to Italian Tannery and Italian Factory. To sell shoes, she then contacted Nordstroms buyer.
